Job Description

About the Role

As a Sociology Teacher, you will deliver thought-provoking and academically rigorous lessons that encourage students to analyse how society is structured and how individuals and groups interact within it. You will support learners in developing strong analytical, evaluative, and essay-writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Sociology lessons in line with GCSE and A-Level specifications
  • Teach topics such as education, families, crime and deviance, social inequality, and research methods
  • Encourage critical thinking and sociological debate in the classroom
  • Support students in developing essay writing and exam techniques
  • Assess, track, and report on student progress
  • Contribute to curriculum development within the Social Sciences department
  • Support enrichment activities such as revision sessions or sociology discussion groups

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (desirable but not always essential for sixth form teaching)
  • Degree in Sociology or a related Social Science subject
  • Strong understanding of sociological theories and perspectives
  • Ability to make complex social concepts accessible and engaging
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and student well being
  • Willingness to contribute to wider school and sixth form life
