You will have a varied workload and be responsible for delivering work for our clients across the minerals, waste management, renewables, property and infrastructure sectors. Your project work would include a mixture of environmental impact assessments, water monitoring, hydrogeological site investigation, groundwater abstraction licences and hydrogeological risk assessments, depending on your areas of interest. As well as working alongside the hydrologists and hydrogeologists in our team, you will also work with colleagues from our ecology, land quality, planning and minerals teams to support the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects where your expertise is needed. This position is an opportunity for you to progress to the next stage of your career, taking on responsibility for managing projects, developing relationships with clients, and providing technical guidance to more junior staff. The role You will work on technical delivery of a wide range of projects; this could include the following: Environmental Impact Assessments, coordinate delivery of Water Environment chapters and supporting technical appendices for Environmental Statements; Water environment components of environmental management including input into construction environmental management plans, post consent discharge of planning obligations and support on water advice to the construction industry; Site works (including undertaking and the organisation of) such as site walkover surveys, monitoring borehole installation, hydraulic testing and groundwater/surface water level and quality monitoring programmes; and Supporting clients with abstraction licensing, Hydrogeological Risk Assessments for landfill and deposit for recovery permits, and Groundwater Risk Assessments for groundwater discharges / groundwater activity permits. Through your other duties you will: Have involvement in all aspects of successful project delivery including proposals writing, risk identification, project set-up, track progress against budgets, and ensure the issue of a suitably high quality of deliverables to strengthen client relationships. Manage and direct projects and tasks within your specialist area and communicate with internal and external clients. Provide workload instruction to others in the team and other disciplines; Mentor and coach others; Support the development of more junior members of the team through on the job training and guidance; Have input into the strategic direction, planning and development of the team, creating new opportunities and prospects, and enhancing team capacity and capability. Keep abreast of technical innovation, changes to regulations and contribute to ensuring we provide high value advice which complies with recognised best practice, technical guidance and UK regulations, ensuring SLR is well placed to take advantage of change. We are preferably looking for someone to be located in our Newcastle upon Tyne office but would be willing to consider applicants for any of our existing UK offices. The role is full time although flexible and hybrid working options are available and part time working arrangements would be considered. We envisage that you would be able to demonstrate: Relevant academic qualification(s) and be working toward or already registered as a Chartered specialist through a UK/EU recognised organisation (or equivalent overseas organisation); Experience contributing to the delivery of a range of technical water environment / hydrogeological studies; Specialist technical skills acquired through your employment and training - for example, awareness of best practices for collecting surface water and groundwater samples, knowledge of requirements for Environmental Impact Assessment assessments, expertise using specialist software for GIS, analysis and modelling. Good awareness of the requirements placed on businesses in the UK by water-related legislation and regulation; Ability to communicate technical concepts and findings to audiences with different levels of technical ability through written reports and meetings (both online and in-person); Ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative; and You will hold a full, current driving licence valid in the UK.
