We are seeking an experienced SAP Basis System Engineer to join the IT Exploitation team within the Digital Business Solutions (DBS) department of a major energy network operator in Brussels. The organisation is responsible for managing the region's gas and electricity networks and plays an essential role in the daily lives of more than 500,000 homes and businesses, while actively supporting the energy transition.

The DBS department enables the organisation to work with reliable, modern IT systems. Within this department, the IT Production team maintains core infrastructure and ensures the smooth operation of critical business applications. SAP is a key platform supporting essential operational processes, including SAP ECC/IS-U and SAP HR.

As part of the IT Exploitation team, you will administer and support SAP Basis components, ensuring system stability, performance, and continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with project teams, operational teams, and business stakeholders to deliver a secure and efficient SAP landscape.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, build and test SAP application technical components
• Support and contribute to project activities and technical decision-making
• Analyze business and project requirements and propose SAP technical solutions
• Perform SAP System Refreshes, System Copies, Client Copies and Exports/Imports
• Install and configure SAP systems, add-on components and plug-ins
• Manage integrations using IDoc and/or Web Services and ensure interface monitoring
• Configure and monitor batch jobs, archiving, housekeeping, backups, restores and high availability setups
• Maintain system components and apply technical updates within supported timelines
• Configure Solution Manager for centralized SAP system management
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance or technical issues, conducting root cause analysis
• Support release deployments and environment changes through to production
• Manage monitoring, logging and operational controls to ensure high availability
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and operating procedures
• Provide continuous guidance to operations staff in monitoring and issue resolution
• Participate in operational testing, incident management, and problem management
• Deploy new application versions and support users and project teams during transitions
• Stay updated on SAP technology evolutions and best practices
• Share expertise with colleagues and support a culture of continuous improvement

Profile

• Strong, proven experience in SAP Basis/System Engineering
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
• Strong analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem solving
• Familiarity with ITIL processes is preferred
