Job Description
Volunteers will assist patients by picking up and transporting them to appointments and therapy groups, ensuring punctuality.
Responsibilities- Pick up patients and transport them to various appointments and therapy groups.
- Assist patients into and out of the volunteer car.
- Report any accidents or untoward incidents to the Voluntary Services Manager immediately.
- Transport patients to and from their appointments.
- Maintain a record of mileage, patient details and jobs carried out; submit regular expense reports.
- Behave at all times in a professional manner and communicate confidently with older patients, including those with hearing or sight difficulties.
- Attend a short induction session and support/supervision sessions (minimum one every three months).
- Comply with Health & Safety requirements, statutory training and the equal opportunities policy.
- Adhere to confidentiality and Data Protection policies at all times.
- Promote a positive image of mental ill health, respecting the dignity and rights of individuals.
- Ordinary driver's licence and experience driving a volunteer car; must be a competent, patient, and caring driver.
- Reside within a five mile radius of SE18.
- Commit to regular volunteering hours and a minimum 6 month volunteer period.
- Be available for required training and personal development sessions.
- Good communication skills and a polite, friendly manner.
- Working with elderly mentally ill patients is an advantage but not essential.
- Reimbursement for travel within the boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich (original receipts required for public transport).
- Claim £5 per day for lunch or other subsistence costs if volunteering exceeds four hours in a day (see volunteers policy for details).
