Turnover Manager

The role of Turnover Manager, reporting to the Quality Manager, is responsible for leading and managing the overall turnover process for mechanical systems, ensuring the successful preparation, review, and delivery of system handover packages in line with client specifications and project milestones.
The Turnover Manager is accountable for establishing turnover strategies, managing system boundaries and handover priorities, overseeing the compilation of traceability documentation (welding, materials, inspections), and ensuring all turnover records are complete, compliant, and submitted in accordance with project requirements.
The Turnover Manager serves as the primary interface between project management, construction, quality teams, and the client, attending regular turnover meetings, maintaining oversight of turnover progress, and ensuring the timely handover of systems. The role also includes leadership of turnover personnel, technical clerks, and project engineering resources involved in turnover activities, driving performance and ensuring the closure of all turnover-related comments and actions.
Typical tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Developing and implementing the project turnover strategy in accordance with client specifications and project schedules.
- Leading the preparation and submission of Mechanical System Handover Packages.
- Ensuring all Project Engineers and stakeholders are aligned with system limits, turnover priorities, and deliverable requirements.
- Acting as the primary liaison with the Client's Certification Department regarding turnover processes, requirements, and package content.
- Managing the collection and verification of welding, material, inspection, and commissioning traceability records.
- Attending client turnover meetings and providing updates on turnover progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Maintaining overall responsibility for the project "Live" System Turnover Status Tracker.
- Chairing turnover coordination meetings to communicate expectations, review progress, and drive actions to completion.
- Reviewing and approving all system handover packages prior to submission to the client.
- Managing the timely closure of turnover review comments and punch-list items.
- Leading and managing technical clerks and turnover personnel under their direct supervision.
- Working closely with the Project Manager and Quality Manager to ensure turnover objectives are aligned with project delivery requirements.
- Monitoring turnover performance metrics and reporting progress to project leadership.
- Identifying risks to handover schedules and implementing corrective actions to maintain project milestones.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced project environment.
- Accountable leader who takes ownership of turnover activities from initiation through to final handover.
- Highly organised with strong planning and prioritisation skills.
- Decisive, able to make informed decisions in a dynamic project environment.
- Able to positively influence project teams and foster collaboration across multiple disciplines.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to understand complex project requirements and system interfaces.
Education, Training & Experience
Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
Significant experience in Turnover, Quality, Construction, Commissioning, or Project Delivery roles within the Life Sciences industry.
Proven leadership and people management experience.
Strong understanding of project handover, quality documentation, and system turnover processes.
Effective communicator with the ability to engage confidently with clients, contractors, and project teams.
IT literate with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and document management systems.
Diligent, with a high level of attention to detail and commitment to quality excellence.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent reporting and presentation skills.
Advanced computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and document control systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Results-driven with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and a proactive approach to project delivery.
Strong commercial and project awareness, with a focus on achieving handover milestones and client satisfaction.
