Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our nephrology team of Nephrologists as a fixed term post for 5 months
The trust grade doctor will work in three clinical areas; the 19 bed nephrology ward (ward 50), with the renal outreach team providing supervision of patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) on the ICU and medical wards and lastly general medical patients on outlying wards.
Inpatient work includes day to day supervision of the junior medical staff on ward 50, review of referrals prior to discussion with the Consultants and attendance on Consultant ward rounds, renal procedures (insertion of dialysis catheters, native and transplant kidney biopsy). Outpatient clinics are held at Hull Royal Infirmary, with weekly outreach clinics at Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Bridlington and fortnightly Goole clinics. These Clinics are Consultant led. All training needs are met centrally in Hull.
All specialist registrars will have an outpatient commitment and have the opportunity to attend Transplant, Transplant Work-up, Low Clearance, Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis clinics as well as General Nephrology clinics. The details of the rotation are organised after consideration of the training needs of the staff involved. The Consultant working patterns are closely integrated, and a similar level of mutual support and team-working is required from the middle grade staff.

Person Specification- MRCP(UK) full diploma
- 5 years experience
- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise 5 from the GMC
- Experience in procedural skills including tunnelled/non tunnelled lines and Kidney Biopsies (Native and Transplant
- Valid ALS certificate
- Renal Medicine Experience
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in post graduate training
- Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on range of acute medical conditions
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the ward
- Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
- Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/ delivery
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff
- Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
- Evidence of having conducted a practice-changing audit
- Experience of teaching/ training in clinical courses e.g. IMPACT Course, Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor
- Original peer-reviewed research publications
- Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service
- Excellent manner with patients, being sensitive to their needs and fears
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, Nurses and other health professionals and flex style as appropriate
- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels
- Ability to communicate effectively with external agencies and other disciplines
