Transport Compliance Manager
Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 DOE + Performance Bonus
Hours: 40 Hours per Week
Working Pattern: 5 Days from 7
The Opportunity
A well-established and highly successful logistics and distribution business is seeking an experienced Transport Compliance Manager to join its transport operation in the Greater Manchester area.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring full transport compliance across a mixed commercial fleet while supporting safe, efficient, and legally compliant operations. The successful candidate will oversee vehicle and driver compliance, lead transport-related governance activities, and work closely with operational teams to maintain high standards across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of transport compliance across a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles
- Ensure adherence to all relevant transport legislation, operator licence requirements, and company procedures
- Monitor and review driver hours, Working Time Directive compliance, and tachograph data
- Conduct driver debriefs, identify trends, and implement coaching measures to minimise repeat infringements
- Oversee vehicle inspection programmes, statutory testing schedules, and maintenance compliance
- Manage preventative maintenance planning and ensure regulatory checks are completed within required timescales
- Review maintenance records, inspection reports, brake testing documentation, and compliance certificates, taking corrective action where necessary
- Coordinate vehicle repairs and workshop activity to minimise operational disruption
- Support health and safety initiatives and promote a strong compliance culture throughout the operation
- Manage and develop transport personnel, including performance management, investigations, recruitment, absence management, and employee engagement
- Produce compliance reports and provide recommendations for continuous improvement
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will possess:
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, drivers' hours regulations, and working time requirements
- Experience within fleet compliance, transport operations, or logistics management
- Proven ability to manage vehicle maintenance compliance and regulatory documentation
- Experience conducting driver compliance reviews and coaching interventions
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Confidence communicating with stakeholders at all levels
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance compliance with operational performance
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Transport Manager CPC
- Class 2 (Category C) Licence preferred
- IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification desirable
- Previous experience within a transport or logistics compliance leadership role
