Transport Compliance Manager

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 DOE + Performance Bonus
Hours: 40 Hours per Week
Working Pattern: 5 Days from 7

The Opportunity

A well-established and highly successful logistics and distribution business is seeking an experienced Transport Compliance Manager to join its transport operation in the Greater Manchester area.

This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring full transport compliance across a mixed commercial fleet while supporting safe, efficient, and legally compliant operations. The successful candidate will oversee vehicle and driver compliance, lead transport-related governance activities, and work closely with operational teams to maintain high standards across the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of transport compliance across a mixed fleet of commercial vehicles
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant transport legislation, operator licence requirements, and company procedures
  • Monitor and review driver hours, Working Time Directive compliance, and tachograph data
  • Conduct driver debriefs, identify trends, and implement coaching measures to minimise repeat infringements
  • Oversee vehicle inspection programmes, statutory testing schedules, and maintenance compliance
  • Manage preventative maintenance planning and ensure regulatory checks are completed within required timescales
  • Review maintenance records, inspection reports, brake testing documentation, and compliance certificates, taking corrective action where necessary
  • Coordinate vehicle repairs and workshop activity to minimise operational disruption
  • Support health and safety initiatives and promote a strong compliance culture throughout the operation
  • Manage and develop transport personnel, including performance management, investigations, recruitment, absence management, and employee engagement
  • Produce compliance reports and provide recommendations for continuous improvement

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will possess:

  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, drivers' hours regulations, and working time requirements
  • Experience within fleet compliance, transport operations, or logistics management
  • Proven ability to manage vehicle maintenance compliance and regulatory documentation
  • Experience conducting driver compliance reviews and coaching interventions
  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Confidence communicating with stakeholders at all levels
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem solving
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to balance compliance with operational performance

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Transport Manager CPC
  • Class 2 (Category C) Licence preferred
  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification desirable
  • Previous experience within a transport or logistics compliance leadership role
