Transport Manager

On behalf of our engineering client, Energis is seeking an experienced Transport Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of their transport operations. Based at their Northern Ireland headquarters in South Down, you will oversee shipping, compliance, and logistics across the UK, Ireland, and occasionally Europe. This is a hands-on role that requires strong organisational ability, problem-solving skills, and the capacity to work under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-ordinating loads for shipping via running units or unaccompanied trailers.
• Booking ferries and managing freight documentation.
• Ensuring empty trailers are returned promptly for loading.
• Monitoring driver hours and ensuring compliance with RHA guidelines & VOSA regulations.
• Securing permits for abnormal loads across the UK & Ireland.
• Managing vehicle scheduling, maintenance, and PSV bookings.
• Organising recovery and breakdown support throughout the UK.
• Planning driver holiday cover to ensure smooth operations.
• Ensuring loads meet weight and safety requirements.

Essential Criteria

• Proven experience in transportation / logistics management.

Knowledge of:

• Shipping and ferry bookings
• Freight paperwork and customs requirements
• VOSA regulations and driver hours restrictions
• Vehicle maintenance scheduling & PSV bookings
• Experience in logistics planning (outbound & return loads) with focus on efficiency and minimal empty mileage.
• Strong IT and administration skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and react with urgency when required.
• Flexible approach to working hours.

The Offer

• Competitive salary £40,000 - £50,000 (depending on experience).
