Teaching Assistant - SEMH

We are looking for a resilient, reliable and genuinely committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil with SEND and SEMH needs at a welcoming primary school in Ilminster. The school also has a well established approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring pupils are supported to access learning and grow as individuals with dignity and encouragement.

The Role - What You'll Be Doing

• Providing 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with SEMH and SEND needs
• Helping the pupil regulate emotions, manage behaviour and stay engaged in learning
• Supporting access to the curriculum in class and during structured activities
• Working closely with teachers and the SEN team to follow agreed strategies
• Offering patient, nurturing support that builds trust and confidence

Requirements & Attributes

• Has experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND needs
• Is calm, consistent and emotionally resilient
• Builds strong, trusting relationships with children
• Is reliable and responsive to individual needs

This role is perfect for someone with experience in support work, youth services, SEND support, or anyone who has worked with children in care, sports coaching, or similar environments and who is now ready to step into a dedicated school support role.
