Reporting to the Executive Producer, this role focuses on production and editorial decision-making, people management and contributes to the strategic direction of the Sports function. Responsible for managing and developing production staff and associated freelancers, this role is responsible for managing and developing production teams and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality output across all platforms.The Supervising Sports Producer will oversee the planning and output of sports programming, live, highlights, ensuring it is visually distinctive, editorially robust and aligned with Virgin Media Television's brand standards. They will lead production teams, develop talent, maintain strong relationships with contributors and stakeholders and drive innovation across platforms.This is a fast-paced, high-responsibility role requiring strong editorial judgement, production oversight and an ability to manage teams while delivering consistent, engaging, audience-focused content. Specific Duties and Tasks: Editorial & Production Leadership Lead the daily editorial output of sports programming, ensuring high standards, strong storytelling and a distinct creative identity. Oversee and, where required, contribute to the production of live event coverage, highlights, features and digital content with accuracy and flair, often to tight deadlines. Oversee gallery output to ensure polished, visually engaging broadcasts. Be responsible for final editorial decision-making on output within agreed parameters. Shape programme structures, formats, and storytelling approaches across all sports content strands. Identify compelling talent, stories, events, and editorial opportunities. Acts as a key escalation point for editorial and operational issues. Team Leadership & Talent Development Line-manage Assistant Producers, researchers, freelancers and on-air talent, providing structured guidance, support and clear expectations. Be responsible for performance management, objective setting, Connected Conversations (performance reviews), and addressing underperformance where required. Lead daily editorial meetings, reviews and feedback sessions to maintain standards and grow capability. Oversee rotas, staffing plans and resource allocation for efficient, smooth production. Support career progression by identifying development needs and creating opportunities for growth. Operational & Editorial Standards Manage edit processes, ensuring smooth workflows and high-quality delivery. Uphold editorial values, compliance standards and brand consistency. Accountable for budget management, cost control, and efficient allocation of production resources. Forward Planning & Content Development Lead forward planning, including major events, rights-based content and long-term editorial projects. Develop new ideas, formats and approaches to keep sports coverage fresh and audience-focused. Responsible for contributing to and implementing long-range content strategy and scheduling. Accountable for the overall quality, consistency and performance of sports output across assigned strand. Stakeholder & Cross-Department Collaboration Build effective working relationships with rights holders, sports organisations, contributors, talent and agencies. Work closely with operations, digital, publicity, commercial and other internal teams to ensure aligned, cohesive output. Communicate confidently with senior editorial leaders on key decisions and programme priorities. Represents the sports production function in cross-functional planning and decision-making. Innovation, Technology & Digital Integration Champion new production tools, workflows and digital storytelling techniques to improve quality and efficiency. Integrate social and digital content creation seamlessly into sports programming. Oversee promotional content designed to grow reach, engagement, and brand impact. Drive experimentation with new formats, workflows, digital techniques and AI-driven enhancements where appropriate. Skills & Expertise: Essential At least 5 years' experience working on live outside broadcasts or major sporting events. Strong editorial judgement with in-depth knowledge of Irish and international sports. Proven experience in producing live sports programming and highlights with tight turnaround times. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop production teams. Extensive experience in gallery supervision and outputting live programming. High proficiency in editing systems. Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment. Experience training on-air talent or presenters. Strong ability to build productive relationships with contributors, rights holders, talent, and internal departments. Experience in delivering on content strategies across broadcast, digital, and social media. Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to remain composed under pressure. Understanding of TV and digital production workflows, technology, and compliance requirements. Desirable Awareness of emerging production technologies and modern cost-efficient production methods. Experience managing budgets, cost controls and resource allocation. Experience developing new formats, franchises, or content strands within sports programming.
