Subject Specialist - Infrastructure

As the Subject Specialist (Infrastructure), you will be an experienced IT services delivery professional joining our busy and influential Advice Team. Along with your familiarity with infrastructure technologies, you will be conversant in IT service management and governance frameworks. A good understanding of ITIL, Cyber Essentials, ISO27001, and disaster recovery planning will be advantageous.

We want you to bring an open-minded, collaborative approach to supporting IT professionals and shaping the advice and guidance Jisc provides to its members across the UK.

What you'll be doing

1. Deliver our Infrastructure Review service and other support offers to our members.
2. Create and publish regular blogs and digital media materials related to digital infrastructure, contributing to sector conversations.
3. Understand the issues and challenges faced by IT managers and technical support staff.
4. Participate in planning, designing, and delivering workshops, webinars, and training sessions both online and face-to-face.

What we are looking for

1. Extensive IT technical support service delivery experience in a large or medium organization.
2. Deployment and management of digital communication networks (wired and wireless technologies).
3. Ability to write effective, concise reports reflecting discussions and making recommendations for positive change.
4. Ability to discriminate and assimilate important information, and disseminate it effectively to customers and colleagues.
5. Sound judgment and appropriate advising skills.

The following skills would be advantageous:

1. Experience working in HE, FE, or public sector settings.
2. Hyper-V or VMware expertise.
3. Firewall and digital security technologies.
4. Experience with public and private cloud services.
5. Knowledge of ISO27001.
6. Familiarity with ITIL.

Additional job details

Workplace: Fully remote

Location: UK-wide, predominantly remote with occasional travel to Jisc offices or customer sites. In-person meetings may be required.
