Job Description

Working hours: 31.5 hours per week, working 3 out of 7 nights between hours of 8pm and 7am, requires working weekends

As a Student Safety Team Member, you'll play a key part in keeping our students and buildings safe, comfortable, and welcoming throughout the night. You'll be the reassuring presence that helps students feel supported, cared for, and at home. You'll work closely with Student Safety Team Leader and your peers across the cluster, making a real impact every day. Every shift brings something different - from doing safety patrols and updating Excel handovers, to responding to emails or supporting a student who needs help in the early hours. It's a role where you'll stay calm under pressure, connect with people, and make a real difference every night.

Your impact
  • Be a friendly face and first point of contact for students who need support or reassurance overnight.
  • Keep our buildings and everyone in them safe, responding calmly to incidents or emergencies such as fire alarms, noise complaints, or maintenance issues.
  • Help students feel welcome, respected, and cared for - always treating everyone with empathy and professionalism.
  • Work closely with day and night teams to ensure seamless service and handovers.
  • Take pride in maintaining tidy, safe, and well kept spaces.
  • Support with wellbeing or welfare matters, noticing when something isn't right and taking action to help.
  • Be a brand ambassador, living our CARE principles: Connect, Act, Respect, and Encourage.
Your background

You don't need to fit a box or follow a traditional path - what matters most is your mindset. We're looking for curiosity, openness to learning, and the drive to make a difference. Whether you're solving problems, leading change, or supporting our students day to day, it's your attitude and approach that will help shape something bigger.

Qualifications
  • Enjoy connecting with people and creating a safe, inclusive environment.
  • Stay composed and confident when faced with unexpected challenges.
  • Take pride in doing what's right and supporting others.
  • Preferred: have experience in a customer service role or residential environment - though this isn't essential. What matters most is your ability to connect with people and create a safe, welcoming atmosphere.
Benefits
  • A performance related bonus paid twice a year.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy up to 5 extra days and earn up to 5 additional days for long service (FTE equivalent).
  • A generous pension scheme where contributions between 4% and 11% depending on how much you save.
  • Life assurance worth 4 times your salary.
  • Share save scheme giving you access to purchase Unite Students shares at a discounted rate.
  • Enhanced Family Leave - including 18 weeks full pay for birthing parents and 4 weeks for non birthing parents.
  • Medicash (Health Cash Plan) - access to claim back the cost of routine medical care, such as dental, optical, physio, etc.
  • An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to ensure that you're supported as much as possible when you need it.
  • Free volunteering day per year to make a difference.
  • Access to our online platform that provides access to a range of retail and hospitality services at a discounted premium.
  • 20% student rent on direct let properties for your children, siblings, or other students.
