Specialty Doctor in Haematology

We have a vacancy for a full time Specialty Doctor in Haematology. This post will be based at King's Mill Hospital in Sutton in Ashfield and also providing clinical services at Newark Hospital.

This is a fixed term appointment to sustain existing and future demand in Mansfield & Ashfield, Newark & Sherwood and rural Nottinghamshire.

The timetable and job plan will include participation in the multi-disciplinary board rounds and ward rounds, daytime on calls, providing outpatient services, participation in appropriate MDT and team/service meetings.

During non-clinical sessions, you will be expected to be active and contribute implementation and lead the service improvements.

Out of hours on call can be discussed if required as part of working towards CESR.

Main duties of the job
  • Participation in ward rounds
  • Give advice to GP's via Advice and Guidance
  • Vetting and triage of referrals
  • Provision of Outpatient Clinics
  • Contribution to service improvements
  • Supporting trainees and Junior Doctor team
  • Active participation in audit and clinical governance

Job responsibilities

You will join our existing teams of Consultant Haematologists, Specialty Doctors and Clinical Specialist Nurses. Further details can be found in the attached job description.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Full registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • Membership of Royal College of Physicians or show evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Progress towards or attainment of college exams
Experience
  • Must have completed at least four years' postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which are in General Medicine and 12 months in Haematology or, have equivalent experience and competencies
  • Previous experience in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Experience within the specialty in the UK
Teaching
  • A demonstrable interest in teaching
  • Evidence of teaching medical students, nursing or paramedical staff
Other
  • Communication skills - to have language competency and communication skills necessary to do the job safely & competently
  • Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit
  • Caring attitude to patients
  • Self-motivated Familiarity with IT and computer skills
