The Endcliffe Ward, based at the Longley Centre, is a purpose built psychiatric intensive care unit, which has 10 beds, all of which are individual rooms with en-suites and includes 2 seclusion suites.
It offers various therapeutic activities including gym, OT kitchen for cooking facility, a sensory room which can provide low stimulus for people with specific sensory needs or who are struggling with the level of stimulus around them, an internal garden for people to relax and where staff engage in activities like badminton and basketball. Dietary needs of people can be tailored to their specific needs.
This is a locked unit providing twenty-four-hour care for people in a mental health crisis who require a safe, controlled environment with high intensity nursing care. It offers a low stimulus environment with high levels of observation if required and high intensity care planning, which outline specific details of treatment and support service users will be offered. It offers person centered care and treatment is tailored to individual patient needs and circumstances. Staff are offered regular support sessions. Specific sessions on patient's formulation of need is undertaken to tailor safe interventions for patients which is based on Trauma informed care and approach.
Main duties of the job- Attendance at ward team meetings and chair these meetings when required.
- Medical leadership to the multidisciplinary ward team.
- Medical/psychiatric assessments for care planning and risk assessment.
- Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions to aid recovery.
- Undertake Seclusion reviews as necessary.
- Attendance at Tribunal hearings for people detained under Mental Health Act.
- Completion of administrative tasks necessary for clinical responsibilities.
- Writing of Mental Health Review Tribunal Reports or reports to other agencies.
- Liaison with members of other teams to transfer patients into and out of inpatient service.
- Attendance at CPA reviews and pre-discharge planning meetings.
- Clinical supervision of junior medical staff
- Teaching of undergraduate medical students.
- Attendance at weekly CPD sessions.
- Attendance at Monthly Governance meetings and Leadership meeting.
- Will be supported through monthly clinical supervision.

- Effective leadership skills
- Ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users and their families/carers.
- Ability to supervise junior staff
- Awareness of the funding arrangements in the NHS and recent NHS developments
- Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice
- Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Experience in General Adult Psychiatry having completed at least four years full time post-graduate training (or equivalent)
- Wide range of experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service
- Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance
- Practical experience of Clinical Audit
- Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
- Teaching/presentation experience (e.g. conference presentation, EBM, research experience).
- Ability to exercise effective leadership in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding of importance of multi-disciplinary service provision and the care programme approach.
- Understanding of and ability to deliver care in collaboration with service users to promote recovery.
- Sensitivity to needs of different ethnic and minority groups.
- Awareness of gender issues in the service provision.
- Highly effective communication skills.
- Participate in Continuous Professional Development
