Senior Physiotherapist - Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC)

Would you like to be part of our friendly Orthopaedic Therapy Team at Kent & Canterbury Hospital working in the GIRFT accredited Elective Orthopaedic Centre? You will have the opportunity to progress both your clinical and leadership skills, working within a team that covers Day Surgery and the elective ward reviewing patients that have come in for a variety of orthopaedic surgeries pre and post operatively.

B6 Physiotherapists work closely with all users of our services and their families, friends and carers who all play an invaluable contribution in how our users experience our services. They are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services provided across the health economy. Main duties include:

• To manage a specialist caseload daily within the services detailed above.
• To deputise for the Team Leader on clinical and managerial issues within the team.
• To be actively involved with training within the Department. We are a friendly supportive team where regular meetings, CPD and supervision is available.
• To be responsible for appraisal and supervision of Band 3 5 staff.
• To be an active clinical educator for students from a range of universities.
• To be involved with clinical audit and service development within the team.
• To be part of the Respiratory On Call rota.

Main duties of the job

Assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for patients. To be an integral part in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients in this clinical area.

The development of integrated care programmes and discharge plan with the patient.

Line management (including clinical supervision) of staff (e.g. Band 5, therapy assistants and students).

Provide professional advice and leadership.

To actively work as a member of the multi professional team to provide high quality therapy intervention to patients.

Manage a caseload of patients on a daily basis including patients with complex needs and multi pathology.

Clinicians working at this level will be expected to evaluate their outcomes, review non responding cases either with their peers or clinical specialists and refer on as appropriate using documented clinical reasoning.

Person Specification Qualification

• A degree in Physiotherapy
• HCPC Registration
• Member of CSP
• Member of relevant Clinical Interest Group

Skills

• Highly developed clinical skills in relevant clinical area
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organisational skills
• Up to date therapeutic moving & handling skills
• Effective and strong team player
• On Call Respiratory Competent

Experience

• 18 months post graduate experience in relevant clinical area
• Clinical audit
• Previous experience supervising staff or supporting students

Knowledge

• Awareness of professional issues and recent developments in the NHS and Primary Care including Clinical Governance, NICE and CQC
• Knowledge of up to date clinical / evidence based practice relevant to clinical area.

Ability to manage

• Able to support the implementation of local and national agenda's for health under the guidance of the team lead / service manager
• Ability to prioritise care delivery in a professional manner, taking into account Trust policies and procedures.
• Ability to organise own work
• Ability to cope with change and use initiative

• Car driver with access to own transportation
• To be aware of and adhere to the Trust's Vision, Mission and Values
