We are currently recruiting a Senior Medical Physicist - Diagnostic Imaging for a leading hospital in Dublin, Ireland .

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support a wide range of diagnostic imaging equipment, including General Radiography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine/PET-CT, Interventional Radiology systems, C-Arms, Mobile X-ray units, and Lasers.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance (QA) programmes for imaging equipment, including data measurement, analysis, and performance evaluation for ionising and non-ionising radiation systems.
  • Provide scientific and technical support to Radiology service lines, ensuring high standards of patient care, customer service, and equipment performance.
  • Advise on the selection, procurement, commissioning, replacement, and upgrading of diagnostic imaging equipment while supporting new technology implementation.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance, servicing, performance, downtime, and preventive maintenance schedules, maintaining accurate records and reporting to Radiology leadership.
  • Promote radiation safety by ensuring compliance with ALARA principles, relevant Irish legislation, Euratom Basic Safety Standards, and hospital health and safety policies.
  • Perform dosimetry assessments, radiation protection measurements, acceptance testing, quality control procedures, and investigations of accidental or unintended medical exposures.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, departmental audits, policy development, accreditation processes, and regulatory inspections, including EPA and HIQA requirements.
  • Deliver training and education to clinical staff on radiation protection, imaging equipment operation, quality assurance, and best practices in diagnostic imaging.
  • Support the ongoing development of Medical Physics services by participating in research, professional development, committee representation, service planning, and the standardisation of radiology and nuclear medicine practices.
Requirements
  • Hold a recognised Honours Degree in Physics.
  • Possess a recognised postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics (MSc or PhD) or demonstrate significant contributions to research or professional practice in the field.
  • Be registered with the Irish College of Physicists in Medicine (ICPM).
  • A management qualification or management training is desirable but not essential.
  • Have a minimum of five years' relevant experience in Medical Physics, including Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Have proven experience working effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Show the ability to manage both clinical and non-clinical situations while maintaining high professional standards.
  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to quality improvement within Radiology and Medical Physics services.
