University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Senior Fellow in Advanced Heart Failure - Cardiology

An opportunity has arisen for the position of Senior Clinical Fellow in Advanced Heart Failure in the Advanced Heart/Lung Failure Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), starting date to be confirmed. The post is initially for 12 months. The unit offers a supra-regional service for the management of patients with Advanced Heart Failure including Heart Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support. On-site Cardiology sub-specialty services at QEHB include adult congenital heart disease, coronary/structural heart intervention, advanced imaging, electrophysiology and cardiac devices. The post offers the opportunity to develop further sub-specialty experience in Advanced Heart Failure including transplantation and acute and long-term mechanical circulatory support. This post is suitable for an individual who are nearing completion of their Cardiology training (peri-CCT) and would like to gain further experience in this field prior to consultant appointment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder's clinical duties will include 2 clinics per week (Transplant continuing care and transplant assessment clinics), cardiac biopsy and catheterisation lists, 3 transplant-related MDT meetings and in-patient care (ward, cardiac and intensive care unit). There will be the opportunity for clinical duties to be tailored to meet the training needs of the successful candidate, with potential for 1 device implant list.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS
  • Full MRCP completed
  • Full GMC Registration
Experience
  • Evidence of experience in advanced heart failure.
  • Having completed or nearing the end of a recognised training programme in adult cardiology.
  • Competencies in transthoracic echocardiogram and cardiac catheterisation.
