Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT is inviting applications for the position of Senior Clinical Pharmacist / Clinical Educator. The closing date is 07 October 2025.
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and knowledgeable clinical pharmacist to join the team as a clinical educator. This role will involve contributing to the clinical pharmacy services at DBTH alongside a clinical educator role at The University of Sheffield, on the MPharm degree course which will be opening in September 2025.
This joint role offers an opportunity for continuing in clinical practice whilst developing the workforce of the future and contributing to the delivery of the undergraduate MPharm degree. The postholder will be substantively appointed by Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with an annualised agreement for 1 to 3 days per week working at the University of Sheffield.
The postholder will be involved in the design, development and delivery of high-quality clinical practice-based teaching across a variety of therapeutic disease states using evidence-based practice. This postholder will also be required to contribute to the assessment of students using OSCEs, written assessments and portfolios alongside academic tutoring and professional mentorship.
Our Pharmacy is a friendly, progressive department where clinical services are led by our Consultant Pharmacists and provided in a supportive team environment. Our team is a respected integral part of the wider multidisciplinary team where pharmacists are aided by a team of medicines optimisation technicians and assistants.
Main duties of the jobEducation /Training at The University of Sheffield (TUoS)
- Work with the Pharmacy team and the Head of Pharmacy Practice to design, develop, deliver and assess practice and clinical teaching within the MPharm programme ensuring that it is accessible, inclusive and contributes to the University's Teaching and Learning Strategy.
- Develop and review assessments in relation to their area of teaching and be involved in associated quality assurance, delivery, marking and feedback.
- Contribute to the development, co-ordination and quality assurance of experiential learning (placements) within the MPharm at TUoS and at DBTH
- Supervise student projects as appropriate
- Participate in School admissions and outreach activities
- Actively contribute to the collective interests and values of the University
- Make a full and active contribution to the principles of the "Sheffield Academic".
Clinical Pharmacy Service
- Delivery of advanced, level 2, clinical pharmacy, including: identifying patients' requirements for pharmaceutical care, and designing care plans to deliver these requirements; ensuring that patients with the most complex requirements for pharmaceutical care are referred appropriately
- Ensuring that research evidence and best practice are incorporated into specialist advice given
- To provide clinical supervision, mentoring
- To participate in multidisciplinary, pharmacy practice and prescribing audits
- To participate in clinical trials, audit and practice research

Person Specification Qualifications & Training- Current Registration as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Postgraduate Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience/qualification
- Independent prescriber
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- GCP training
- Teaching qualification e.g. FHEA, PGCert Higher Education or willing to work towards after appointment
- Relevant current Practice as a clinical Pharmacist in a patient-centred role to include specialist level (level 2 equivalent)
- Experience of planning, delivering, and evaluating pharmacy education and training programmes and/or training of other healthcare professionals
- Good clinical knowledge and understanding of common disease states and their management
- Evidence of developing evidence based prescribing guideline and policies
- Experience of mentoring/coaching/supervision
- Experience of working with education institutions
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, in a wide range of circumstances (e.g.patients, carers, staff, professionals)
- Ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues and students
- Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate good time management and organisation skills
- Ability to work as an acknowledged member of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritise
- Proven experience in the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate, and communicate highly complex therapeutic options.
- To adopt a flexible working approach to meet the needs of the trust and university.
