Senior Clinical Fellow in Pelvic Uro-Oncology

Imperial College Health NHS Trust offers a 12 month fixed term fellowship beginning October 2026 for a senior trainee wishing to advance in robotic urinary upper tract surgery.
The post is based in the Imperial College Urology Department at the Charing Cross Hospital, one of the largest renal cancer units in the UK.
The Fellowship provides exposure to all aspects of renal cancer management, including clinic, MDT, and operative experience. The department performs about 250 upper tract procedures per year ranging from robotic partial nephrectomy to open caval thrombectomy on cardiopulmonary bypass.
Main duties of the role- Serve as an integral member of the urology team focused on renal cancer management.
- Gain operative experience in robotic partial and radical nephrectomy, complex open upper tract surgery including level IV caval thrombectomy, robotic prostatectomy, benign upper tract robotic surgery, and robotic pyeloplasty.
- Attend specialist MDT and post MDT outpatient clinics.
- Actively manage patient pathways and undertake regular clinics.
- Complete at least one research project and produce a minimum of one peer reviewed publication.
- Assist in training junior specialist trainees and contribute to fortnightly departmental education meetings.
The post holder will provide high quality care to patients in urology, maintaining GMC registration and meeting trust guidelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain competencies required for the post.
- Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities.
- Involve patients in decision making and respond to their views.
- Take an active role in managing patient pathways.
- Perform administrative duties associated with patient care in line with departmental guidelines.
- Support the training of junior specialist trainees and other junior doctors in the Urology department.
- Oversee appropriate booking of renal cancer theatre lists.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership skills within the wider urology team.
- Collaborate with all members of the multi disciplinary team and Imperial College as required.
- Adhere to trust/departments guidelines on leave and report absence promptly.
- GMC registered medical practitioner.
- MRCS or equivalent.
- FRCS in Urology (or equivalent).
- Higher degree relevant to Urology.
- Ability to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements.
- Understanding of research principles.
- Evidence of previous presentations and publications.
- Experience teaching and training undergraduates/post graduates and junior medical staff.
- Understanding of clinical governance.
- Evidence of active participation in audit.
- Clinical judgment: experience in making decisions and managing risk.
- Ability to seek help and prioritise clinical need.
- Practical skills: proven aptitude for required clinical procedures.
- Effective work in varied clinical settings.
- Accurate, thorough, and timely recording of clinical data.
- Experience in Urology with subspeciality experience in urological cancer.
- Competence and experience of independent decision making out of hours.
Post requires submission for a Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
Salary£45,715 to £69,976 per annum + £2,162 London Weighting Allowance, depending on experience.
