We're working with a welcoming primary school in central Bristol that is opening a new specialist resource base next academic year to support pupils with autism and additional learning needs. As part of this exciting development, the school is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their experienced support staff team.
This role will involve supporting pupils with an ASD diagnosis, helping them access learning, build confidence, and feel fully included in school life. The school prides itself on creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is valued and supported to reach their potential.
You'll be working closely with teachers, SEND specialists, and families as part of a team that believes strong relationships and consistent support make all the difference.
What you'll be doing- Building a positive and supportive relationship with the pupil, responding to their individual needs
- Supporting them to take part in classroom activities and learning alongside their peers
- Breaking tasks down into manageable steps so learning feels achievable and engaging
- Following support strategies outlined in the pupil's EHCP and individual support plans
- Working with the class teacher, SENDCo, and wider staff team to deliver consistent support
- Liaising with external professionals involved in the pupil's development
- Keeping clear records of progress, achievements, and any concerns
- Building strong, professional relationships with parents and carers
- Supporting the pupil during lunchtime and afternoon learning sessions

About youThe school is looking for someone who is calm, confident, and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
You'll ideally have:
- Recent school-based experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
- Experience supporting pupils with autism or additional learning needs
- A patient, caring approach and the ability to build trusting relationships
- Strong teamwork skills and the confidence to work closely with teaching staff and SEND professionals
- The ability to use your initiative while following guidance from teachers and support plans
- Good organisation and the ability to prepare learning materials and resources as needed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
