Job Description

SEND Inclusion Officer

The SEND Inclusion Officer plays a key role in delivering statutory duties relating to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), with a strong focus on co-ordinating and managing Annual Reviews. The postholder will manage a high caseload (circa 250 cases), working closely with schools, families, and multi-agency partners to ensure plans remain appropriate, lawful, and up to date.

This role requires candidates who can work at pace, maintain compliance with statutory timescales, and confidently handle complex casework with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and progress a high caseload of EHCPs, with a primary focus on Annual Reviews
  • Co-ordinate the Annual Review process, including consultation with schools, families, and professionals
  • Draft, amend and update EHCP documentation in line with review outcomes and statutory requirements
  • Ensure all SEND processes comply with relevant legislation, guidance, and local authority procedures
  • Respond to complex queries from parents, schools, and professionals in a timely and sensitive manner
  • Work collaboratively with education, health and social care partners to support positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on Capita One, with use of SharePoint and Microsoft Teams for case management and communication
  • Support the service during transition from Capita One to Liquid Logic (planned July), adapting quickly to new systems and processes
  • Contribute to service improvement activity and ensure statutory timescales are met consistently

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience as a SEND Inclusion Officer or in a closely related SEND role (essential due to high caseload and minimal training capacity)
  • Strong experience managing EHCP Annual Reviews within a local authority setting
  • Ability to effectively manage large caseloads (circa 250 cases) while meeting statutory deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of SEND legislation, guidance and statutory processes
  • Experience using Capita One (essential); familiarity with Liquid Logic desirable
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office, including Teams, and working knowledge of SharePoint
  • Excellent written skills, with experience drafting and amending EHCP documentation
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including working with families and schools
  • Highly organised, resilient and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
