Scientist Seed and Plant Health - BASF Nunhems - Location Nunhem

To further develop and grow this ambition we are looking for a Scientist Seed and Plant Health.


YOUR JOB:

As scientist you lead and support research and development activities in seed health and molecular diagnostics, with a focus on ensuring seed quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role contributes scientifically and technically to the development of high-quality seed products by applying expertise in plant pathology, molecular biology, and diagnostic technologies. The scientist collaborates cross-functionally to detect, characterize, and manage seed-borne pathogens, ensuring that diagnostic strategies support product integrity, innovation, and sustainable crop production. In addition, the role supports other functions, such as breeding, production, and quality assurance, by providing reliable diagnostic data and expert interpretation to guide decision-making.


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead projects on development of seed and plant health test protocols, managing research from ideation to implementation (including project management and experimental design)
  • Lead and support molecular diagnostics
  • Participation in development and implementation of seed and plant health related strategies and translating these into programs and projects
  • Interaction with global stakeholders in various functions and departments


WORK EXPERIENCE

  • MSc or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, plant pathology, (molecular) plant science, or a related field.
  • Experience with seed health/seed pathology is a plus
  • Ability to manage research from ideation to implementation
  • Project management skills and experience
  • Solid knowledge of statistics and trial set-up and execution
  • Great communication skills, team player
  • Proven experience with molecular diagnostic techniques, including real-time PCR (qPCR).
  • Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms (e.g., Illumina, Oxford Nanopore) and associated laboratory workflows.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and pipelines for sequence data analysis, particularly for the detection and characterization of plant pathogens.
