Main duties of the job

We're looking for candidates who bring a positive attitude, are fully registered with the General Medical Council, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.

  • The post holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, queries, home visits, reviewing and signing repeat and acute prescriptions, reviewing test results and patient correspondences, medical reports, and referral letters (NHS/private) in a timely manner
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from Federation team members
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collect data for audit purposes
  • Work towards all QOF/LES and DES targets
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions wherever possible)
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care

Other responsibilities with the Practice:
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and QOF standards
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Maintain an educational portfolio
  • Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the practice
  • Contribute to the development of computer-based patient records
  • Attend training, practice/federation meetings and events organised by the federation or other agencies where appropriate
  • Meet all timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure that the federation meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g. annual QOF audit, out-of-hours audits)
  • Participate in primary care led initiatives
Person Specification Experience
  • Qualified GP Practitioner with 2 or more years experience
