Exciting opportunity to join our expanding endoscopy unit at the royal Liverpool hospital.

We are one of the largest endoscopy level 4 units.

We currently run 7 theatres at the royal Liverpool and expanding to Broardgreen hospital with 3 extra procedure rooms.

We are JAG accredited unit and perform , daily activity such as EMR,ERCP, Bronchoscopy, colonoscopy and bowel cancer screening.

We currently run 4 GA list a week

Endoscopy experience desirable but not essential as extensive training will be given.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.

Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, have good communication skills and undertake delegated tasks from the ward sister/charge nurse.

All our staff are trained for all aspects of endoscopy and skills are updated on Jets Database.

Main duties of the job
  • Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
  • Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care. Informs the nurse incharge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
  • Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
  • Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit.
  • Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
  • Providing information and support to patients/carers, and ensuring all those involved in the care are aware of changes in the patients' condition.
  • Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
  • To develop the clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.

Job responsibilities

To undertake expanded practice, under supervision, in order to optimise patient care and in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies. Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care. Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered ODP, current HPC registration (applicable to ODP) or
  • Registered nurse, current NMC registration (applicable to RN)
  • Evidence of post registration study
  • ALS, PLS
Experience
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Understanding of the application of evidence based practice
  • 8 Ability to delegate work appropriately
  • Evidence of Critical Care experience or interest
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current healthcare issues and healthcare governance
Skills
  • Supportive of Colleagues
  • Basic IT skills, including e-mail and word processing
Other
  • Ability to work in changing environments
  • Flexibility to meet service needs within Critical Care and Anaesthetics as required
