Primary - Sen Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a caring, patient and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school staff to ensure the child can access learning, develop social skills and thrive within the classroom environment.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition.
• Support the pupil's learning, communication and emotional development throughout the school day.
• Implement strategies and interventions identified in the child's support plan.
• Encourage positive behaviour and support the development of social interaction skills.
• Adapt learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO.
• Monitor and record progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil while promoting independence.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and external professionals.
• Support the pupil during classroom activities, breaktimes, transitions and school events where required.

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience working with primary-aged children.
• Understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition and associated needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Commitment to supporting children's wellbeing and academic progress.

Desirable

• Previous experience in a 1:1 support role.
• Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3).
• Knowledge of sensory needs, communication strategies and behaviour support techniques.
• Experience working within a school setting.
