Premises Manager

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Premises Manager to lead the maintenance, operations, health & safety, transport, and grounds functions across a large and busy educational environment. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for ensuring buildings, facilities, grounds, and transport services are maintained to the highest standards while remaining fully compliant with all relevant regulations.

The Role

Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will oversee a team responsible for premises, grounds, transport, and cleaning operations. You will manage maintenance programmes, contractor relationships, refurbishment projects, compliance activity, and departmental budgets, ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-presented environment at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the premises, grounds, cleaning, and transport functions.
• Oversee planned and reactive maintenance across buildings and external areas.
• Manage refurbishment and building improvement projects.
• Monitor and manage departmental budgets and expenditure.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and statutory regulations.
• Maintain compliance records, risk assessments, and maintenance documentation.
• Manage external contractors and service providers.
• Oversee security arrangements and participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
• Support major events and operational activities throughout the year.
• Drive continuous improvements in facilities management and operational efficiency.

You will have:

• Previous experience managing facilities, estates, premises, or property operations.
• Strong leadership experience, including team and contractor management.
• Experience overseeing maintenance programmes and refurbishment projects.
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety compliance and risk management.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• A full driving licence.
