Job Overview

The Assistant Poultry Manager will work closely with the Poultry Farm Manager to support the day-to-day operation of the farm. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining high standards of bird welfare, biosecurity, flock performance, health and farm compliance.

Location: Garstang, Lancashire
Salary: £40,000 per year, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Poultry Manager will be expected to:

• Monitor bird health, welfare and behaviour.
• Manage feeding, watering, lighting and ventilation systems.
• Monitor temperature, humidity and air quality.
• Record feed and water consumption.
• Monitor flock weight gain, mortality and overall performance.
• Maintain accurate farm production and compliance records.
• Supervise and support poultry farm workers.
• Plan daily activities and ensure work is completed to a high standard.
• Maintain strict biosecurity, hygiene and cleanliness standards.
• Monitor poultry equipment and identify maintenance requirements.
• Support compliance with farm assurance, health and safety, animal welfare and environmental standards.
• Assist the Farm Manager with the effective day-to-day running of the business.

Requirements

The successful applicant should have:

• Practical, hands on experience working with poultry.
• A good understanding of poultry health, welfare and biosecurity.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Reliability and a responsible approach to work.
• Good observation skills and attention to detail.
• Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work weekends when required.
• The physical ability to work effectively in a poultry farm environment.
• A genuine interest in developing a long term career in poultry management.

Poultry Passport qualification would be an advantage, although training and support may be available for the right candidate.
