Main purpose of role:
The Philanthropy and Trusts Team at St Martin in the Fields Charity has ambitious plans which will see us grow our pipeline and diversify our income over the next 3 years. In order to support in the identification of new Philanthropists and Trusts that will feed that pipeline, the team are looking for a Prospect Researcher to join the team on a fixed term contract.
The Prospect Research role will work between the two teams, researching and identifying new business opportunities for the Trusts Team, whilst supporting the Philanthropy Team to interpret and maximise the results of a recent wealth screening.
The role will also provide the applicant with the opportunity to work alongside our program and insights team as well gaining exposure to, and experience of wider, fundraising activities as we prepare for the launch of our annual BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the Philanthropy and Trusts Managers to understand the specific prospect research requirements for each portfolio in order to meet the team's objectives and financial growth targets.
2. Produce insightful, high-quality research on current and prospective donors from a wide variety of trusted sources and in line with GDPR.
3. Complete research requests within specified timeframe and tailor findings for variety of purposes and audiences.
4. Work closely with the Philanthropy Manager and the Trusts Manager to develop, review and regularly monitor prospecting strategy in line with the changing internal and external environments ensuring the team focuses on the best prospecting opportunities and high level 5 and 6 figure leads with high propensity and affinity.
5. Attend monthly pipeline review meetings with the team to track prospect solicitation stages, the warmth, size and value of each pipeline.
6. Provide administrative support for the submission of proposals
7. Ensure the database is kept up to date with accurate and current information on prospects, contacts and ensure it is stored and archived accurately and in accordance with GDPR and St Martin's policies.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience
Essential
Experience of researching high net worth individuals and/or Trusts and Foundations identifying capacity, propensity and affinity to the cause. Experience of researching and identifying prospects for specific, fundraising activities, including major donor events, one off appeals, Anniversary celebrations. Experience of producing accurate, unbiased, concise snapshot research as well as more in depth research profiles detailed reports, network mapping and analysis on donors and prospects. Experience of setting up/managing prospect allocation processes and donor/prospect surgeries. Experience using a CRM system. Desirable
Experience of working in the charity sector and/or a passion for working within the charity sector.
Skills and knowledge
Essential
- Strong understanding of due diligence, data protection and the latest GDPR and ICO updates. Ability to gather information form the public domain in accordance with GDPR, Data protection regulation, IoF and charity law.
Ability to conduct due diligence research to assess and escalate reputational risk or ethical concerns regarding source of wealth or company operations. Ability to show tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information. Understanding of the principles of high value fundraising practices and donor motivations. Strong IT skills, competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) Knowledge and commitment to St Martin in the Fields Charity's aims, mission and values.
