Personal Assistant

Overview

We are looking for a kind, patient and reliable Personal Assistant to support a friendly 18 year old young man living in the Gilberdyke area. He is a warm and loving individual who is keen to build a positive and trusting relationship with the right person.

He enjoys gentle walks and spotting different animals in calm and quiet environments. He is a wheelchair user and has access to his own adapted vehicle for community trips. The young man can become upset if he feels misunderstood or overwhelmed, especially by loud or busy surroundings. Once he feels comfortable, he responds well to humour and gentle reassurance.

He can communicate his wants and needs well, has a sense of fun and enjoys watching SpongeBob SquarePants, In the Night Garden and Mr Bean. A favourite outing is a visit to Costa for cake, though quiet venues suit him best.

He requires full support with personal care (he wears pads full time) and regular medication administration when out at certain times. The role is best suited for someone who is caring, understanding, and enjoys building meaningful one to one relationships.

Responsibilities and Expectations

Support and encourage activities of interest, ensure his safety at all times during your working period, promote trying new activities to improve his confidence and abilities, become a friend and engage in conversation.

Qualifications and Experience

• SEND experience.
• Knowledge/experience with challenging behaviour.
• A full driving licence and confident driving a big van (vehicle provided).
• Caring, honest, responsible and patient characteristics required to help with this young man's care.
• Reliable with time keeping and communication with parents.
• Understanding of confidentiality, privacy and the ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills. A love of the outdoors.
• Understanding of sensory issues.
• Previous PA experience with children/adults with learning difficulties and behavioural difficulties is preferable.

Travel

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required; applicants must be able to transport themselves.
