Job Description

Operational Researcher - Analytical Modelling & Forecasting
Duration: Approx. 100 working days (Full-time) | November 2025 - March 2026
Location: UK-based (work on secure government-issued devices)
Security Clearance: SC required

Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to provide specialist analytical surge support for a high-priority government pilot project.

The work will focus on modelling and forecasting within a new asylum system route, contributing to strategic objectives such as:

  • Reducing temporary accommodation use,
  • Cutting case backlogs, and
  • Supporting measures to reduce irregular migration.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and adapt Python-based analytical models.
  • Build simulation models to evaluate case flow and decision-making processes.
  • Integrate models with secure data environments (eg, LakeFS) for real-data simulations.
  • Design and deliver interactive dashboards (eg, Plotly Dash or Power BI) for scenario comparison and policy impact analysis.
  • Conduct scenario analyses and produce regular reports for stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with analytical quality assurance (AQA) and documentation standards.
  • Support knowledge transfer through documentation, coaching, and technical handover at project close.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong Python programming skills, including Git version control.
  • Advanced Excel for analytical purposes (non-VBA).
  • Proven experience in simulation modelling and forecasting.
  • Ability to build and manage analytical pipelines.
  • Expertise in data visualisation and dashboard development (Plotly Dash preferred).
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, reactive environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable Skills
  • SQL experience.
  • Background in policy analytics, asylum modelling, or government data environments.
