Main duties of the job

Ourmain surgery is in the heart of Combe Down village, with a second site at OddDown. We care for around 14,000 patients and have developed innovative modelsof care to ensure patients are seen by the right clinician in a timely manner.

Job responsibilities

The Role: This role combines clinical practice with nursing leadership. Whether you are a Practice Nurse or Nurse Practitioner, you will provide expert patient care, and as Nurse Manager, you will lead and develop the nursing team, ensuring high standards, excellent clinical governance, and a positive, collaborative culture.

Key Responsibilities: Clinical Duties (depending on your level of practice)

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic conditions
  • Provide telephone, video, and face-to-face consultations
  • Prescribe and review medications (for Nurse Practitioners)
  • Conduct or arrange diagnostic tests and interpret results
  • Support and mentor practice nurses and HCAs

Leadership & Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop the nursing team
  • Oversee workload allocation and skill-mix
  • Drive clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement
  • Foster a supportive, learning-focused team culture
  • Collaborate with management and GPs to meet practice priorities

Education & Development

  • Support training and development for staff and students
  • Maintain your own professional development and revalidationAct as a mentor and clinical leader, promoting excellence in patient care

Key Information:

  • Hours: Flexible, 25 - 37.5 hours/week
  • Leave: 6 weeks annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays and a birthday day off
  • Salary: Negotiable, dependent on experience
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with NMC registration
  • Independent or supplementary Nurse Prescriber (if Nurse Practitioner)
  • Advanced clinical assessment skills (if Nurse Practitioner)
Experience
  • Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills
  • Team leadership, mentoring, and staff development
  • Strong organisation and workload management
  • Commitment to patient-centred care
