North Hampshire Urgent Care (NHUC) is a highlysuccessful, not-for-profit Community Benefit Society. As we continue to grow and innovate within adynamic and evolving NHS landscape, we are seeking to appoint a financiallyqualified Non-Executive Director to join our Management Council.

The Role

As a Non-Executive Director, you will bringstrategic insight, financial acumen, and independent challenge to our strategy,governance and decision-making. You'll work collaboratively with fellow Councilmembers and the executive team to ensure NHUC remains financially robust,operationally effective, and true to its community-focused mission.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual who:

  • Holds a recognised financial qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Brings board-level or senior finance experience, ideally including experience gained in public sector, not-for-profit, or complex service organisations
  • Has strong analytical and governance skills, with the confidence to offer constructive challenge

  • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and service to the community

About us

NHUC is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, working in partnership with the NHS. NHUC provides services through two divisions, Same Day Care (SDC) and TalkPlus.

SDC provides services through the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) contract which covers the in Hours Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) and Out of Hours (OOH) provision for North Hampshire, North East Hampshire and Farnham (NEHF) and Surrey Heath places which are part of the Hampshire and the Isle of Wight ICB and Frimley ICB respectively. We also provide Urgent Treatment Centres at the front doors of both Basingstoke and Frimley Park Hospital whilst also holding some smaller contacts supporting Community Hospitals OOH and Flu response. Finally, SDC has a virtual care arm supporting patients at home.

TalkPlus provide NHS Talking Therapies, supporting people with common mental health problems in Northeast Hampshire and Farnham place. TalkPlus offers a range of treatments to people who are experiencing symptoms of stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, panic, phobias or OCD. TalkPlus has care pathways to provide timely treatment for perinatal and military veteran referrals.

Job responsibilities

Leadership

To be an independent financially qualifiedvoice on Council

To chair the Risk and Assurance Committee,and participate (as Chair or a member) in other Committees as required

To provide strong and effectivecommercial, risk and financial assurance and advice to ensure that NHUCS risksand finances are managed effectively in line with statutory and NHSrequirements.

Contribute to effective decision making andconstructive debate, concentrating on key matters and the review of complexand/or contentious issues

Provide support and advice to the Chair asrequested, particularly with reference to financial and commercial riskmanagement, and on the general operations of the organisation

Work with Council members in developing andpromoting NHUCS vision, values, aims and strategic objectives, challenging conventionalapproaches and driving change forward when needed.

Proactively operate as a member of theCouncil in the decision-making process and ensure that full and completeconsideration has been given to all options during the process.

Review and evaluate present and futureopportunities, threats and risk in the external environment and current andfuture strengths, weaknesses and risk to NHUC.

Input to, and offer support of, the strategicagenda and objectives and to maintain knowledge and work effectively with thesenior team in a support, challenge and assurance role as a member of thenon-executive team.

Operations

Take an active and effective role as a memberof the Council to ensure the executives have developed clear objectives todeliver the agreed plans and regularly review performance against theseobjectives.

Encourage the best use of resources and thedevelopment of effective risk and performance management processes.

Promote appropriate processes and proceduresto deliver high standards of professional, clinical, administrative andpersonal behaviours across NHUC.

Influence and advance the future strategicdirection of the client ensuring healthcare treatment targets are met, whilstmaximising benefits for patients.

Be aware of and understand relevant,regulatory and central Government policies.

Be able to understand and challenge highlevel financial and commercial information.
