Do you have what it takes to be part of our Acute Medicine team? This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a redesigned Acute Medical Unit as part of the expansion of our urgent care facilities.
We are looking for a motivated individual, passionate about acute medicine who is looking for an opportunity to join our team of substantive consultants.
The Acute Medical Unit is part of our "Ground Floor" urgent and emergency care model, a journey that began with the opening of our state of the art Emergency Department and CT and MRI suite. The unit brings together acute medicine, a high observation facility and Same Day Emergency Care into one expansive facility, further supported by an 18 bed short stay acute ward.
This role is fixed term for 12 months and will be reviewed and extended based on successful completion of required competencies towards CESR within 3 years of appointment.
Main duties of the jobYou will be based in the heart of the action within our vibrant Acute Service, using your skills, knowledge and experience to provide rapid assessment of patients, supported by a full Multidisciplinary Team. You will deliver a first class clinical service, providing leadership to resident doctors, ACPs and medical students.
The position will service the Acute Medical Unit which houses 38 beds and admits an average of 42 patients per day, and our co located Same Day Emergency Care Unit which sees an average of 45 patients a day. In addition, there is an 18 bed acute short stay ward which runs a Consultant of the week model.

Person Specification Professional Registration- Full Registration with the GMC
- On the GMC Specialist Register (or expected inclusion within 6 months)
- Valid ALS certificate
- SCE in Acute Internal Medicine
- Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in post graduate training
- Demonstrable commitment to Acute Medicine
- Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on a range of acute medical conditions
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience of delivering acute medical care in large, high throughput Assessment / Admissions Units in the UK
- Experience in ambulatory care
- Ability to manage and lead medical teams
- Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the unit
- Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
- Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development / delivery
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff
- Committed to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care of individual patients
- Evidence of having conducted a practice changing audit
- Experience of teaching / training in clinical courses: e.g. IMPACT Course Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor
- Original peer reviewed research publications
