Job Description

Student Mentor (Wellbeing, Careers & Coaching)

Location: Croydon, South London Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) Start Date: September (or sooner)

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Student Mentor to join a specialist SEN school in Croydon. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people by supporting their wellbeing, personal development and future pathways.

In this role, you will work closely with students aged 11-18, many of whom have SEMH, ASD or additional needs, providing consistent pastoral support, coaching and guidance to help them succeed both in education and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring and coaching to support students' emotional wellbeing and personal development
  • Support young people with career awareness, aspirations and next steps
  • Deliver engaging life skills, employability and enrichment sessions
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and resilience
  • Support behaviour using trauma-informed and de-escalation strategies
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external agencies
  • Monitor and record student progress, wellbeing and behaviour in line with safeguarding procedures
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive decision-making

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs Experienced in mentoring, youth work, coaching or pastoral roles Confident supporting students with SEMH, ASD and behavioural needs A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills Calm, resilient and able to manage challenging situations Committed to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing

Essential Experience

  • Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work or support setting
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation
  • Experience delivering 1:1 or small group support
  • Awareness of safeguarding practices

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience delivering careers guidance or employability sessions
  • Mental Health First Aid or similar training
  • Experience working within SEN or alternative provision
