Rate: £450.00 - £475.00 (inside IR35)
Location: Telford (2 days per week onsite)
Clearance: Active SC Clearance or SC Eligible

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Java Engineer to join a large-scale Agile delivery programme supporting the development and enhancement of business-critical services.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to the design, development, testing, and support of enterprise applications, helping deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions using modern Java technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Design and develop Oracle PL/SQL packages, procedures, and scripts.
• Build and consume REST APIs and integrations.
• Support delivery of new features, service improvements, and defect resolution.
• Participate in technical design, estimation, code reviews, and testing activities.
• Investigate and resolve production issues and support live services.
• Collaborate with Developers, Architects, QA Engineers, and Business Analysts within Agile teams.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation where required.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Java.
• Experience developing applications using Spring Boot.
• Strong Oracle PL/SQL development experience.
• Good understanding of Oracle SQL.
• Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
• Experience using Git version control.
• Experience writing automated tests using JUnit or similar frameworks.
• Good understanding of object-oriented design principles.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams.

Desirable Skills

• Active SC Clearance.
• Oracle JMS.
• Maven or Gradle.
• Mockito.
• WireMock.
• OpenAPI.
• GitLab.
• Jira and Confluence.

You'll be a collaborative software engineer with strong Java development skills and experience working across the full software development life cycle. You should be comfortable solving technical challenges, working closely with stakeholders, and delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-paced Agile environment.
