The UCL Ear Institute is a world-leading international centre for research and teaching related to understanding hearing and improving hearing, balance and ENT care. Our collaborative, multi-disciplinary institute has circa 75 staff working across basic and clinical sciences including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory systems neuroscience, cognitive and computational neuroscience, audiological sciences and ENT medicine. The UCL Ear Institute together with its partner, the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat & Eastman Dental Hospitals , also hosts a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Theme in 'Hearing Health'. A RAND analysis of highly cited publications ranked UCL No.1 in England for both 'Deafness and Hearing' and for 'Audiology and Speech & Language Pathology'.
Training the next generation of auditory scientists is a priority at the UCL Ear Institute. The Institute hosts three-and four-year PhD programmes in a wide range of basic and clinical disciplines, including genetics, cell and molecular biology, auditory neuroscience and human auditory function. It also offers a range of Master's-level programmes in audiology and audiovestibular research, as well as short courses for students and health-care professionals. The Operations Officer role is part of the Ear Institute's Professional Services team, who support all the operational functions that enable the Institute to deliver its strategic and operational mission as a world-leading international centre for research and teaching related to understanding hearing and improving hearing, balance and ENT care.
The role holder will:
- Manage and ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective Ear Institute operations service. The postholder will take proactive ownership of escalated departmental operations queries, working in partnership with specialist functions and central UCL services as appropriate to ensure timely and effective solutions.
- Maintain oversight of established operations processes and systems, identifying and delivering improvements and actively embedding a continuous improvement mindset and best practices approach.
- Manage and ensure delivery of the Institute's growing CPD/Short Course portfolio and its internal events.
You will have extensive experience of working as an administrator in a busy and complex environment delivering both operational and events supports. Alongside excellent communication and interpersonal skills you will have the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of people. You will also have excellent organisational, time management and project management skills, including the ability to work efficiently on numerous projects simultaneously and to adapt to changing circumstances.
