Infrastructure Automation Engineer - 2 year Contract - Hybrid

We're seeking an experienced Infrastructure Automation Engineer to help industrialise and automate complex infrastructure builds. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Python-led automation, configuration management, and zero-touch deployment across multi-vendor server, network, and storage environments.

This role requires active SC Clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure automation components using Python and configuration management tooling.
  • Reverse engineer Legacy and manual infrastructure builds into parameterised, repeatable, zero-touch automation packages.
  • Automate deployment of server, network, and storage technologies across multi-vendor environments.
  • Develop automation for hardware features, services, and configurations including bare metal deployments.
  • Integrate infrastructure components with external REST/SOAP APIs and services.
  • Produce production-quality code using Git/Bitbucket with peer review processes.
  • Create and review technical design documentation across multiple artefact levels.
  • Support wider system testing and collaborate with Service Management to resolve platform issues.
  • Work within an Agile delivery environment as part of a structured engineering team.

What You Will Ideally Bring

  • Strong hands-on experience developing complex automation using Python (Python3 environments).
  • Commercial experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Bash Scripting capability within infrastructure environments.
  • Proven experience building or supporting large-scale infrastructure platforms.
  • Experience automating server, network, and storage deployments.
  • Knowledge of hardware-level configuration and bare metal provisioning.
  • Experience integrating with REST and/or SOAP APIs.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability across hardware and software failures.
  • Experience working in Agile teams with version control best practices.
  • At least one relevant certification (eg CCNP, VMware VCP, RHCE/RHCA, OCA) obtained within the last five years.
  • Active SC Clearance (essential).

Contract Details

  • Duration: 2 years (with strong extension potential)
  • Day Rate: £500 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Location: Bristol - Hybrid
  • Start Date: ASAP
