Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a skilled or semi-skilled HGV Diesel Technician to join our maintenance team. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles, including tractor units, trailers and rigids. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, experience with automotive diagnostics, and proficiency with various hand and power tools. Candidates must demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality service.
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough inspections of heavy vehicles and equipment using schematics and diagnostic tools
Perform repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension, HVAC systems, shocks & struts, and other vehicle components
Carry out routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire services, and brake repairs
Fabricate parts or modify equipment as needed using welding, soldering, and fabrication techniques
Operate heavy machinery safely during repair or maintenance procedures
Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to disassemble and reassemble vehicle systems
Interpret technical manuals and schematics to troubleshoot issues effectively
Ensure all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer specifications
Maintain detailed service records for each vehicle or piece of equipment serviced
Assist in the assembly or installation of new machinery or components
Experience
Dealership experience is preferred but not mandatory; candidates with extensive automotive repair backgrounds are encouraged to apply
Strong knowledge of automotive diagnostics and electrical systems
Hands-on experience with diesel engine repair, transmissions, air brakes, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC units, shocks & struts
Experience with vehicle maintenance
Familiarity with schematics for troubleshooting complex mechanical or electrical issues preferred
Excellent customer service skills for interacting with clients or internal teams during service processes
