Head of risk

We are seeking an experienced Head of Risk Management to lead and develop an independent risk function within a regulated financial services environment. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring robust risk governance, maintaining effective risk frameworks, and providing strategic oversight across all key risk types.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and the board, acting as a trusted advisor on risk matters while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and group-level policies.

• Lead the firm's risk management function as an independent second line of defence
• Oversee the identification, measurement, monitoring, and control of all risk types, including credit, market, liquidity, operational, and concentration risk
• Maintain and enhance the firm's risk management framework, ensuring it remains effective and up to date
• Provide regular reporting and insight to senior management and the board on risk exposures, appetite, and key developments
• Support strategic decision-making by delivering risk analysis and recommendations on business initiatives and new product development
• Ensure strong risk governance, including chairing risk committees and overseeing relevant sub-committees
• Develop and implement risk policies, procedures, and controls in line with regulatory expectations
• Monitor key risk indicators and ensure timely escalation of material risk issues
• Oversee stress testing, liquidity modelling, and internal capital adequacy processes
• Ensure the quality, integrity, and appropriateness of risk data used across the organisation
• Manage and develop the Risk Management team, ensuring effective resource allocation and capability building
• Collaborate with group stakeholders to implement global risk policies and controls

• Provide oversight and challenge to business strategy to ensure alignment with risk appetite
• Deliver risk input into remuneration frameworks and governance processes
• Lead responses to significant risk events and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented

• Significant experience in a senior risk management role within financial services
• Strong understanding of risk frameworks, governance, and regulatory requirements
• Proven expertise across multiple risk disciplines (credit, market, liquidity, operational risk)
• Experience within commodities, energy markets, or global markets environments is advantageous
• Strong analytical, financial, and technical skills
• Demonstrated leadership capability with experience managing high-performing teams
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

• Professional qualifications such as CFA or FRM are advantageous but not essential
