Job Description

Job Title: Head of Mathematics

Salary: £32,916 - £51,048 per annum

Hours: Full time
Location: The Bewdley School

Permanent

Required from September 2026.

We are seeking an exceptional professional with experience of curriculum leadership, and a thorough and comprehensive grasp of the mathematics curriculum from year 7 to 13. The successful candidate will have excellent negotiation, management and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of audiences. As the manager of a large team of professionals, you will need to be insightful and emotionally robust, with both excellent day to day management skills, and the leadership capacity and vision to shape the future provision of mathematics in the school.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have the ability and experience to teach advanced level mathematics. The school has a long and successful record of excellent outcomes in both mathematics and further mathematics at advanced level. As such, this gives the right candidate the opportunity to teach the most able mathematicians in the school, whilst at the same time leading a core department of committed and highly skilled colleagues.

The Bewdley School is a Foundation school, so whilst the school is maintained by Worcestershire County Council, the Governing body is the employer. Serving the town of Bewdley and located on the banks of the River Severn, we are a fully inclusive and comprehensive school performing well in national examinations and offering a broad and balanced curriculum. If you would like to work with, and lead, skilled colleagues in a supportive environment, where you are free to communicate your passion for your subject, please apply.

We seek a colleague who has:
  • Exceptional energy and enthusiasm
  • Substantial leadership & organizational capacity
  • A sophisticated grasp of how children learn
  • The optimism to imagine a better future
In return we offer:
  • Students who are genuinely curious
  • A welcoming, friendly and supportive culture
  • Opportunities for personal development
  • A commitment to rational leadership

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will undertake an Enhanced Disclosure via the DBS, where appropriate.
