Job Overview

Join our weekly gardening sessions and help create a calm, welcoming space for autistic individuals and people with a learning disability to connect with nature. As a Gardening Support Volunteer, you'll offer gentle guidance during planting, watering, weeding, and other garden care activities, while encouraging independence and confidence. You'll help set up and tidy tools, maintain a safe environment, and be attentive to sensory needs. This role is perfect for someone patient, friendly, and happy to get stuck in with hands on tasks that make a real difference.

Session Times
  • Gardening Session Volunteer (10:00 am - 1:00 pm) - ideal for volunteers who would like to support just the main gardening session.
  • Longer Shift Option (9:00 am - 2:00 pm) - volunteers on a longer shift can support both the gardening session and general gardening tasks alongside staff.
Responsibilities

By volunteering in our inclusive gardening sessions, you'll be helping autistic people and individuals with a learning disability enjoy nature in a calm, welcoming environment. Your support will enable participants to build confidence, learn new skills, and express themselves through sensory friendly gardening activities. You'll also provide gentle, practical help that makes it possible for each person to take part at their own pace, which can make a huge difference to their wellbeing, independence, and sense of connection.

Qualifications
  • Interest in gardening
  • Good communication
  • Comfortable and confident working with autistic people and people with a learning disability
Training
  • Online training in safeguarding, autism and learning disabilities
  • Guidance from our fabulous gardening teacher
