Job Description

We are recruiting for a unique and powerful role within a new partnership project between SASP, Nelson Trust, and Thrive. This is not a traditional service role. It is a relationship-first, co-created approach to building connection, trust and belonging alongside families in Bridgwater who are facing complex challenges and want to make change on their own terms.

Location Wellington Offices / Bridgwater Area, TA21 9JQ Contact Name Laura Dyke Contact Telephone Contact Email Organisation SASP

We're seeking someone compassionate, creative, and grounded - someone who knows that the most transformational support starts with listening and walking alongside, not fixing or doing to. This project is funded by Sport England and builds on SASP's growing work to embed physical activity in wider life outcomes - because when families change their terms of reference, they are more likely to move, connect, grow and thrive.

As a Family Health & Wellbeing worker, you'll play an important role in SASP's place-based approach to supporting families. You'll provide compassionate, relational, and tailored support to individuals and families experiencing a range of challenges - including poverty, poor health, trauma, and isolation. This role is part of SASPs "Active Place" work, an innovative, community-led programme delivered in partnership with The Nelson Trust and Thrive (formerly the Community Council for Somerset) and funded by Sport England.

You'll be part of a small, cross-organisational team built on values of trust, dignity and collaboration. You'll work with a small number of families (identified through trusted partners), supporting them to build connection, confidence, and wellbeing in a way that is truly led by what matters to them.

You'll spend time where it feels natural - in homes, parks, coffee shops - and use physical activity as a tool for relationship, wellbeing, and change, but only when it fits and flows with what families want.

This role is grounded in trauma-informed, strength-based, and community-led approaches. You'll help challenge "top-down" models by showing what's possible when we lead with humanity and hope.
