Job Description
Executive Producer, News and Current Affairs - Virgin Media Television

Virgin Media News is seeking an experienced Executive Producer to lead the editorial production of live news and current affairs output across television and digital platforms. The role is a senior newsroom leadership position responsible for delivering high quality live broadcasts, driving editorial excellence, leading production teams, and shaping our digital first news strategy.

Reporting to the Head of News and working closely with fellow Executive Producers, the News Editor and wider newsroom leadership, the Executive Producer will play a key role in shaping Virgin Media News' daily output across television, digital and social platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver clean, creative and legally watertight news bulletins to air.
  • Come up with fresh angles on the main news stories of the day.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with our team of journalists to produce engaging news bulletins.
  • Work closely with the News Editor and fellow producers within the department.
  • Line manage a team within the News and Current Affairs department.
  • Supervise team training and development.
  • Lead the responsible adoption of AI enabled newsroom tools to improve workflows while maintaining editorial integrity, transparency and compliance with company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant broadcast regulations and guidelines.
  • Plan for special events such as elections and budgets.
  • Monitor ratings and audience feedback and adapt to trends.
  • Liaise with the Graphics department to ensure the on air look is creative and impactful.
  • Lead the integration of broadcast, digital, social and streaming news content strategies to maximise audience reach and engagement.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of Virgin Media News, identifying opportunities for audience growth, innovation and content development.
  • Act as a senior editorial decision maker, ensuring accuracy, impartiality, fairness and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Other newsroom duties as assigned by the Head of News.
Skills and Expertise
  • Extensive experience producing news and current affairs content across television, radio, or digital platforms.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Irish political landscape and a command of national and international social, cultural, business and economic affairs.
  • A strong contacts book.
  • Strong understanding of defamation law.
  • Excellent editorial judgement and proven ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Social media skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Exceptional organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of digital news production.
