The Engineering & Asset Strategy Directorate delivers TfL's sustainability ambitions across multiple transport modes, with collaboration across TfL, customers, local government, suppliers, consultants and contractors.
Your work will be multi-disciplinary, spanning environment and social sustainability, and will contribute to city-defining programmes and transformational change.
What will I be doing?Your graduate programme will include placements lasting 3-6 months across TfL and the Engineering & Asset Strategy Directorate, plus short placements in maintenance and operations to understand end-user impact. Placements may be arranged externally (e.g., Department for Transport, contractors). The aim is to build the skills to pursue Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist status while starting your TfL career.
Paths align with Engineering institutions on your application:
- IET - emphasis on systems, electrical, electronic, communication or control systems engineering
- IMechE - emphasis on mechanical engineering and materials
- ICE - emphasis on civil and structural engineering
All graduates will undertake a range of placements providing broad exposure to TfL environment and sustainability work.
Qualifications & trainingOn completion, you will be on track to become a Chartered Engineer with your chosen institution and a Chartered Environmentalist with your chosen institution or ISEP, plus online and in-person training opportunities. You will receive ongoing mentoring and development support.
Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL's work ethos.
Career progressionOn completion, you are expected to move into the Environment & Sustainability Engineering team or other TfL engineering teams, with increasing responsibility over five years and potential progression to Chartered Engineer and Environmentalist statuses.
