The successful candidate will combine their creativity and management acumen with an ability to work collaboratively and creatively with many stakeholders, from art world and architecture colleagues to local authorities, schools and local grassroots organisations. Deeply embedded in the local context, this role requires strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to be flexible and sensitive to community needs when managing commissions, selecting and supporting artists and gardeners for our residency and public programme at The White House and supporting the public programme at A House for Artists.
The role requires a thoughtful approach to and genuine interest in community engagement which informs all aspects of the curatorial decision-making process. An equally important aspect of the work is to line manage two Engagement Coordinators and to take an active role in the operational management of Create London's venues, overseeing financial and administrative tasks that keep the venues welcoming and safe, while contributing to fundraising activities.
In this rewarding role, the candidate will contribute with rigorous commissioning and engagement strategies alongside practical delivery of programmes from end to end, engaging and exciting diverse audiences in East London.
You will be based at Create London's office in Dagenham and may be required to work from other Create London premises. Hybrid working is supported although staff are required to work at least 50% of their hours from Create London premises. Working hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, but we are open to flexible hours to accommodate different life situations. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends as the programme dictates.

- Receipt of satisfactory references covering the last 2 years of your employment or education
- A satisfactory DBS check
- Proof that you are legally entitled to work in the UK
Experience & Competencies (summary)
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- 3-5 years' managing curatorial projects and commissioning new work
- Knowledge of contemporary art, architecture and/or design and curatorial practices, with a demonstrable interest in socially engaged practice
- Experience:
- Working with communities outside the visual arts ecology
- Working directly with artists, architects, designers and/or other creatives, supporting them in the development of their research or the creation of new work with communities
- Working collaboratively when developing and delivering programmes
- Interest in working outside a gallery environment
- Drafting funder reports and undertaking evaluation
- Setting and monitoring budgets
- A demonstrable interest in contributing to fundraising
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent ability to multitask, delegate and prioritise within a busy working environment
- Confident working independently as part of small team
