CTO - Amsterdam - SaaS, Climate Tech, and Serious Scale

A well-funded climate tech company in Amsterdam is looking for a CTO to lead the charge as they scale.

The platform is already live, already profitable, and already making a dent. It helps major industrial players reduce carbon emissions through predictive analytics, IoT integrations, and automated optimisation workflows. Think smart energy systems, real-time data, and genuinely useful insights that get used on the ground, not just in board decks.

Now they're growing fast. That's where you come in.

You'll step in as the technical owner of the product roadmap and infrastructure. You'll lead a team of around 20 engineers with plans to grow that to 50. The current stack includes React, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, Python for data, and GCP. It's solid but flexible, so if you've got strong opinions backed by experience, they're listening. ML pipelines are already in use, but there's plenty of room to evolve how the company handles big data. Familiarity with distributed systems, stream processing (Kafka), and event-driven architecture will serve you well.

Security, scalability, and uptime are now business-critical. You'll bring engineering maturity that matches the company's commercial ambition. That means growing the team, mentoring, shaping the platform architecture, improving CI/CD workflows, and working closely with the CEO, Head of Product, and a sharp external advisory group.

This is a hybrid role. Ideally, you'll be in the office two or three days a week, in a very nice spot near the canals in central Amsterdam. But there's some flexibility here.

You might be right for this if:

  • You've scaled a SaaS product past Series A and still sleep at night
  • You're equally comfortable discussing load balancing and engineering culture
  • You know what a great engineering team looks like and how to build one
  • You understand the urgency and responsibility that comes with climate tech
  • What's in it for you:

A competitive salary, real equity, and a genuine leadership seat at the table. The company is backed by investors who understand the space and aren't afraid to invest properly in people and technology.
