Amazon Web Services (AWS) Infrastructure Services (AIS) designs, plans, delivers, and operates all AWS global infrastructure. In this role, you will join a diverse team of software, hardware, network, and operations engineers to keep the cloud running by deploying and maintaining Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) in AWS leased and colocation data centers.
Key job responsibilities- Deploy, maintain, and upgrade BMS/EPMS systems in AWS leased/colocation data centers.
- Coordinate with AWS Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) teams for new builds and upgrades to ensure high availability and resiliency of control systems.
- Develop control panel Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Create ISA data sheets for temperature, level, flow, and pressure transmitters as well as for control valves, positioners, analytical instruments, and other instrumentation.
- Generate drawings for control panels, power distribution, and junction boxes, including general arrangement, internal layout, schematics, and wire diagrams.
- Produce logic diagrams in the International Automation format for complex devices such as programmable logic controllers (PLC) and distributed control systems (DCS).
- Prepare cable routing plans and schedules.
- Inspect, test, and commission facility systems.
- Support internal customers with technical assistance on controls systems.
- Coordinate project work internally and with external departments to ensure on time, on budget completion of projects.
The Controls Engineer's day typically begins with deployment efforts, including on site site management works, directing controls vendors for installation and commissioning, and ensuring quality and on time delivery of tasks and projects. Throughout the day, the engineer collaborates with operations teams for permits, engages vendors, and performs services that align with task lists.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in vendor management.
- Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
- Experience in data center engineering or operations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience in construction or project management.
- 3+ years of on site experience with industrial controls in critical environments (data center, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, petrochemical, etc.).
- Experience designing, configuring, installing, and servicing industrial controls platforms (e.g., Honeywell Tridium Niagara, Schneider Electric PowerLogic/Struxureware, Inductive Automation Ignition).
- 2+ years of project or vendor management experience (RFPs, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFIs, and submittals).
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, procedures, risk assessments, and SOPs.
