Job Description

We have been assigned by one of the UK's prestigious NHS Trusts to recruit a Consultant in Ophthalmology on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their Ophthalmology department.

The client is a medium-sized district hospital providing a full range of acute hospital services and specialist services to Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. With around 550 beds and over 4,000 staff, the hospital treats approximately 400,000 patients annually, including outpatient and emergency attendances. Most inpatient and outpatient services are provided on the main hospital site.

The Trust is organized into four clinical divisions: medicine, surgery, women and children, and core clinical, along with corporate directorates. The executive directors and clinical service unit leadership teams oversee daily operations, with overall management accountability with the Chief Executive. The Trust has invested significantly in its facilities over the past decade and continues to develop new services and pathways to improve patient outcomes and experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  1. Participate in providing comprehensive Clinical Services in Ophthalmology alongside colleagues.
  2. Engage in Medical Audit meetings and departmental activities in line with Royal College guidelines.
  3. Attend clinical meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary team efforts.
  4. Participate in the hospital's GP meetings and future on-call rota.
  5. Contribute to departmental teaching, including undergraduate and postgraduate training.
  6. Assist in medical audit processes and contribute to service development.

The role offers a flexible working pattern, including full-time or part-time options, with 10 P.A.s. The post requires GMC registration. The Trust provides a supportive and friendly team environment.
