Job Description

As Commercial Manager at Kotug Inland Shipping you have a crucial role in the financial and operational growth of Kotug Inland Shipping. You behold a key position within the organization and are responsible for the contact and negotiations with customers.



Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Commercial or Business Management
  • Proven track record in a commercial working environment
  • Knowledge of inland shipping (law and regulations)
  • Experience with (maritime) technology
  • More than average interest in new techniques and modern/innovation solutions
  • Good influencing-, negotiation- and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Creative problem solver
  • Helicopter view
  • 'Do it now' and 'Yes we can' approach (result driven)
  • Proficient in Dutch and English, both verbal and written
  • Identifies with Kotug culture and values



Duties and Responsibilities

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ):

  • Keeps him or herself actively up to date to HSEQ manual and procedures.
  • Ensure safe and healthy execution of activities own department and contractors, in line with HSEQ procedures.
  • Promotes and develops a strong safety culture, oriented towards continuous improvements.


Kotug Strategy:

  • Support and contribute to the KOTUG Inland Shipping strategy.
  • Deliver input to the fleet portfolio strategy to optimize the fleet portfolio for existing business, fleet renewal and new business demands.
  • Provide input into the strategy, year plan, budget and business plan.
  • Ensure implementation and execution of business strategy, budget and year plan according to set KPI's.


Business Development:

  • Explore and analyze market trends and identify business opportunities.
  • Build strong and effective relationships with prospects and partners.
  • Positioning Kotug Inland Shipping in current and new areas to stakeholders.
  • Set up business cases and feasibility studies, including cost-benefit analysis.
  • Responsible for developing and improving the inland transportation needs of potential customers.


Commercial Management:

  • Contact person for prospects regarding the complete sales process of the E-pusher series (from recruitment, progress until completion and administration)
  • Reporting and commercial updates on regular basis.
  • You recognize in which phase the business of a prospect currently is and act accordingly.
  • Turning leads and prospects into customers.
  • Involved in good running of the customer's operation and optimize the business processes.


Financial Management:

  • Analyse and monitor business performance and budget closely and take action if needed.
  • Preparing annual sales forecast and provide input for annual budget.
  • Calculate request, draft quotations and proactively ensure follow-up.
